CMS Debuts EHR Website

Posted Administrator Account on 6/26/2010

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has launched a website to give hospitals and other medical providers information about Medicare & Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) incentive programs.

The website is intended to give current information on EHR incentive programs, which will provide payments to eligible professionals and hospitals as they implement and demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology.

According to the site, providers implementing certified EHR systems will see benefits beyond financial incentives. These additional benefits include error reduction, better availability of records and data, and e-Prescribing/refill automation.

The incentive payment programs are scheduled to begin in 2011.

In conjunction with the website launch, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) has issued a final rule establishing a temporary certification program for EHR technology.
