Ohio Hospitals Net $87 Million in UPL Funds

July 29, 2010

Ohio hospitals will receive an additional $87 million in federal funds based on care they provide to Medicaid patients.

The funds, upper payment limit reimbursements, will help to offset fees paid by the hospitals to the state to help finance expansion of the Ohio’s Medicaid rolls.

The amount of funds received by each hospital will be based on Medicaid utilization data. The first payments will be made at the end of July, with another payment due in July 2011.

The UPL payments are in addition to a five percent increase in Medicaid reimbursements aimed at offsetting the fees paid to the state.

Provision for the UPL payments was included in the 2010-2011 state budget.
